Bioblitz Kick-Off Party

Bioblitz Kick-Off Party In-Person

For adults and families.

Registration required.

Join us as we kick-off our first annual Moorestown Library Bioblitz! A bioblitz is a communal citizen-science effort to record as many species within a designated location and time period as possible. Scientists can then use this data to track an animal or plant's population, movement, and more. At our kick-off party, we will learn more about citizen science, learn how to use the app iNaturalist, and do some exploring outside the library to practice using the app. (If there is rain, we will stay in the library.) Snacks and adventure goodie bags will be provided. Be sure to bring your smart phone!

And for adults attending, you will score 100 points towards your Summer Reading goal!

Then, during the following week, use your newly-learned iNaturalist skills to document as many plants, animals, and fungi in Moorestown. This is a great way to get the whole family outside enjoying nature. The bioblitz will run from July 13 - July 19. For each organism you enter into the app, you will be entered to win a fun prize! During the week, look for different organisms at parks, on sidewalks, in ponds, and even your own backyard. Be sure to snap a clear picture to upload to the app.

We request that you register for the kick-off party but be sure to document organisms all week! Remember, each entry is one more chance to win a prize!
