International Cinema Night with Michael: Life Is Sweet In-Person
Patrons will enjoy old and contemporary movies from around the world, including but not limited to Europe, South America, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. All films are screened in their original language with English subtitles and a short discussion will follow each film.
This week, join us in watching the British film, Life Is Sweet, directed by Mike Leigh. This invigorating film from Mike Leigh was his first international sensation. Melancholy and funny by turns, it is an intimate portrait of a working-class family in a suburb just north of London--an irrepressible mum and dad (Alison Steadman and Jim Broadbent) and their night-and-day twins, a bookish good girl and a troubled, ill-tempered layabout (Claire Skinner and Jane Horrocks).
