Movie Night: The Public In-Person
In celebration of National Library Week, the library will be showing The Public directed by Emilio Estevez.
An unusually bitter Arctic blast has made its way to downtown Cincinnati and the front doors of the public library where the action of the film takes place. At odds with library officials over how to handle the extreme weather event, patrons experiencing homelessness turn the building into a shelter for the night by staging a sit in.The story revolves around the library patrons, as well as the exhausted and overwhelmed librarians who often build emotional connections and a sense of obligation to care for those regular patrons. This film tackles some of our nation's most challenging issues and sets the story inside one of the last bastions of democracy-in-action: your public library.
Snacks will be available during the movie.
Rated PG-13. Runtime is 1hr 59min.
This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Moorestown Library.
