Moorestown's Early History: 1600-1800 In-Person
With the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026 in mind, as well as the upcoming historic house tour in Moorestown, this presentation will highlight significant historic events and locations in Moorestown. The existence of the Lenni Lenape in the area will be explained in the context of Quaker settlement. An exploration of the Paleo Indian / Archaic / Woodland archaeology activity in the Moorestown area prior to the Lenni Lenape will be given. Moorestown’s existence in the context of Salem and Burlington in New Jersey as well as Philadelphia will be explained. Those loyal to the British Crown as well as those loyal to the American colonies will be depicted in context of the Revolutionary War. Finally, a survey of early residences in the Moorestown area will be presented. A free walking tour handout related to this presentation will be available to all in attendance.
