Artist Reception: Marjorie Scheier

Artist Reception: Marjorie Scheier

"People, sometimes by themselves, sometimes as a group. In solitude or action. In various conditions of light and shadow. I have tried to capture life around me in my
figurative paintings".

Marjorie Scheier was born and raised in Philadelphia. She studied at the Student’s Art League in New York City, and Philadelphia College of Art, where she graduated with a degree in fashion illustration in 1954 and art education in 1970. An early abstract painter, Marjorie moved to compositions of people in scenes of everyday life. From 1959, Marjorie and her family lived on Peasant Valley Avenue in Moorestown, NJ, and spent summers on Long Beach Island. She created art in her home studio, inspired by people she photographed along the shore, in local and regional venues, upstate NY, and scenes from her global travels. The people she met and observed through her camera lens found their way to her canvases.

Marjorie’s work has been featured in solo, group and juried exhibitions, winning numerous awards. Her work has been represented in galleries in Philadelphia, New
Jersey, New York City, Virginia, Massachusetts and Georgia, and has been selected for open space permanent collections in Philadelphia. Her painting, On The Move, is
published in Philadelphia Images: Philadelphia People, Places and Pastimes by Artistsfrom The University of the Arts, The University of the Arts Press, Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, 1990.
